Invitation to the 2003 Budapest Winter School:

Dear Colleague,

We would like to invite you to participate in this school that aims to summarize the developments in 2003 in high energy and heavy ion physics, with particular attention to the run-2 and run-3 data emerging from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) accelerator as well as to correlations and fluctuations in HEP. The RHIC accelerator has been dedicated to collide intersecting beams of heavy ions in the search for a new state of matter called quark gluon plasma.

The aims of the school are
1) deepening the collaboration between experimental and theoretical physicists who are interested in finding QGP and perhaps other new states of hot and dense hadronic matter;
2) deepening our international collaborations, and preparing for the organization of Quark Matter 2005 in Budapest, Hungary; and
3) preparing for an increased Hungarian participation in the PHENIX experiment of the RHIC accelerator at the Brookhaven National Laboratory, Long Island, USA, as KFKI RMKI, ELTE and Debrecen University are institutional members of PHENIX from the beginning of 2003;
4) opening this school for students from outside Hungary;
5) strengthening the collaboration between KFKI RMKI and the ELTE University. Due to this reason, one session of the School will be held at ELTE and the talks in that session will be open to all members of the ELTE Departments of Physics as well as to all of the students.

Location of the school (with the exception of the talks on Thursday afternoon) will be the Auditorium of the Research Institute for Particle and Nuclear Physics of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA KFKI RMKI), Building III, 2nd floor,Konkoly-Thege M. u. 29-33, Budapest XII, Hungary.

Contributed talks: Participants are encouraged to present their recent results in brief contributed talks. Please e-mail us your name and institute, (and the title of your contribution, if any).

Participation fee of EUR 30, approx HUF 7500 will be charged to the participants. This covers the basic organization costs, the coffee breaks and contributes to the other expenses of the school. This school will be partially supported by Hungarian OTKA grants, by the exchange programmes of OTKA, MTA and NSF, by the exchange programme of the Hungarian and Polish Academy of Sciences, and by other international exchange programmes.

Housing: As a default, participants are expected to solve their housing in Budapest, and to cover their lunch expenses at the KFKI Cafeterias. Links to Budapest hotels are provided here. However, we have also reserved some hotel rooms in the nearby Hotel Sunlight, that are available for a special price to our guests. If you are interested in this possibility, please e-mail the organizers.

Students are particularly encouraged to attend the school (and their fee will be waved).
