Good problem solving skills and hands-on involvement in the development of this facility are required. Candidates with design and construction experience of similar facilities will have an advantage. Applications are invited from candidates with: PhD (Physics) Experience with time of flight detectors and ion beam techniques, such as ERD will be a strong recommendation. Regional XRD facility (Ref: 015) He/she will be co-responsible for optimising the use of the regional XRD facility. Be actively involved with research projects requiring XRD techniques and generate new projects. Be responsible for promoting and establishing contacts with industry. The incumbent should have the ability to liase with outside users. Applications are invited from candidates with: PhD in materials science/engineering or solid-state physics. Research interest in the fields utilizing stress or texture determination. Basic knowledge of X-ray diffraction. Experience in use and maintenance of diffractometers. Cryo-preparation for X-ray microanalysis (Ref: 016) The incumbent will be responsible for optimisation of cryo-preparation of biological specimens for analysis by the nuclear microprobe. Must be actively involved in research projects related to biological applications of ion beam techniques. Applications are invited from candidates with: PhD in Biology. Working experience in a nuclear and electron microprobe. Credits in the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Botany. Design of cryo-chamber for NMP (Ref: 017) The incumbent will be responsible for the design and testing of a cryo-chamber for the nuclear microprobe (NMP). He/she will be actively involved in research projects related to biological applications of ion beam techniques and generate new applications. Applications are invited from candidates with: PhD in Physics. Working experience in operating a nuclear microprobe using PIXE, RBS or STIM in biological research. Experience in specimen preparation using cryo-techniques. Computer programming skills. AFM SCIENTIST (Ref: 012) The incumbent will be responsible to develop and operate the Atomic Force Microscope. Perform measurements for external users of the AFM. He/she will be actively involved in research projects of the group. Be able to communicate results and willing to travel to international laboratories for further training. Applications are invited from candidates with: B. Eng (Electrical) or B. Tech (Electrical) - preferred or B.Sc. with Physics and/or Chemistry. A sound electronic background and experience/knowledge of signal acquisitioning and processing. Computer literacy. SURFACE SCIENTIST (Ref: 013) He/she will be responsible to develop a Rutherford backscattering facility to do real-time studies of gas/solid reactions. The incumbent should be able to apply ion beam analytical techniques to the study of surface chemistry. Must be able to generate ideas/solutions and be able to work as a team member. Opportunities exist for further post-graduate studies. Applications are invited from candidates with: MSc (Chemistry or Physics); Knowledge of solid-state reactions and/or gas/solid reactions. We offer a competitive remuneration package, which includes normal company benefits.
