They can be used to= =20 generate safety electricity, in isolated places, for energy recovery in=20 high temperature industry and transports, and others (more information is=20 available at http://tpvcell.hmg.inpg.fr/). We have an 8 month pre-doc=20 position to offer, to work on the European Community funded project=20 ThermoPhotoVoltaic cell based on GaSb(HPRN-CT-2001-00199). The successful= =20 candidate will be involved in PIXE analysis of the samples provided by the= =20 network participating institutions. The salary is =AC2173 per calender= month,=20 and the starting date is 1 June 2004, negotiable. Training in high-sensitivity analysis of thin films will be provided. The=20 use of a microbeam is also possible. A strong involvement and participation= =20 in the network activities is envisaged. Education in Physics or a related=20 area, normally with frequency of an M.Sc. or Ph.D. Experience in PIXE is an= =20 advantage, as the successful candidate will take part in an on-going=20 activity. Ideally, the candidate is already making a PhD, and will take=20 this opportunity to work in a different environment, integrating the=20 research done at ITN in the PhD programme. Eligibility criteria for candidates (see http://www.cordis.lu/improving/): - - Age - they must be aged 35 or less at the time of their appointment=20 to the network (exceptions can be made for compulsory military or civil=20 service and for childcare); - - Qualifications - they must be holders of a degree that qualifies them= =20 to embark on a doctoral degree; - - Nationality - they must be nationals of an EU Member State or=20 Associated State or have resided in an EU Member State for at least five= =20 years immediately prior to their appointment in a network. - - International Mobility - a national of a state other than the one in= =20 which they will be located in the network and must not have carried out=20 their normal activities in that state for more than 12 of the 24 months=20 prior to their appointment. For non-EU Member or Associated State nationals= =20 wishing to be appointed in a Research Training Network which started in=20 2002 only, you must not have resided in the country in which your potential= =20 host institute is situated for more than two years in the last five years=20 immediately prior to appointment.
